NFL Teasers Betting: Best Basic Strategy Options for Week 14
by George Monroy - 12/4/2014
Basic strategy teasers have been on fire over the last three weeks, posting a 7-1 record through eight qualifying games, and the only squad not to cover during that span was Kansas City during last weekend's loss at the hands of the Denver Broncos. Basic strategy teasers are two-team, six-point wagers that involve only favorites of 7.5 to 8.5 points and underdogs of 1.5 to 2.5 points. The idea is to tease the favorites down past the strongest NFL key number of three and to tease the underdogs up past the second-strongest NFL key number of seven.
Heading into Week 14, there are three basic strategy teasers on the board, all of which involve underdogs being teased past the seven-point mark. Remember, only those spreads mentioned above qualify as a basic strategy teaser games, and according to the math, it would be better to bet any other number straight up. Let's take a closer look at this week's games and figure out which teasers have the best value.
Seattle Seahawks at Philadelphia Eagles
Six-point teaser : Seahawks +8.5
Seattle has looked like absolute monster over the last two weeks. The team is clicking on offense and dominating on defense and may be regaining its Super Bowl-winning form at the perfect time. The Seahawks have not been a great road ATS team, posting a 2-4 mark over six games, but they have not lost a game by more than nine points this season and currently lose games by an average of 5.5 points.
The Eagles have played three games against NFC West opponents, losing two and winning one. The squad was able to get a six-point victory over St. Louis and lost to both San Francisco and Arizona by four and five points, respectively. This is a situation where Seattle will probably win the game outright-they have the defense and big-game experience to shut Philadelphia down-so taking them on a teaser feels like a great play
Baltimore Ravens at Miami Dolphins
Spread : Ravens +2.5
Six-point teaser : Ravens +8.5
Miami struggled during a must-win Monday Night game against the New York Jets and almost cost itself a chance at grabbing one of the final wild card spots in the AFC. Both the Ravens and Dolphins currently sit on a 7-5 record, and Sunday's matchup is shaping up to be a playoff eliminator with six other teams also sharing the same record.
On paper Baltimore has been the better team in a tougher conference, but this matchup feels like a tight game waiting to happen. Miami is 6-3 in conference play and could win this game outright. However, expect this matchup to have a playoff feel with Baltimore doing whatever it can to keep the game close. Taking the Ravens plus the points feels like a great situation to wager on.
.
Kansas City Chiefs at Arizona Cardinals
Spread : Chiefs +1.5
Six-point teaser : Chiefs +8.5
Arizona's season may be done. The squad has looked horrendous with backup quarterback Drew Stanton under center and went from dark-horse Super Bowl contender to being in danger of not even making the playoffs. At this point there is very little reason to believe in the Cardinals. If the squad can manage to get Larry Fitzgerald back, it has a chance at being competitive, but after last week's horrible loss against Atlanta, even he might not be able to help the team.
Kansas City is coming off of back-to-back losses after winning five straight games and will be looking to right the ship and get back into the playoff race. The squad has the No. 1 pass defense in the NFL, which does not bode well for an already-struggling Cardinals offense. Arizona is probably getting a little too much respect by even being favored in the first place. Take Kansas City plus the points.
