NFL Teasers Betting: Best Basic Strategy Options for Week 9
by George Monroy - 10/29/2014
Week 9 of the NFL season will be a slow one for basic strategy teasers unless lines begin to move toward the end of the week, because as of now there are
only two games that qualify under the teaser guidelines. Basic strategy teasers are a specific wager that only uses favorites of 7.5 to 8.5 points and
underdogs of 1.5 to 2.5 points and moves those lines across the strongest NFL key numbers of three and seven to anchor those spreads with the most common
margin of victories.
This week's teasers consist of two teams receiving points and moving their original spreads of two points into the eight-point territory. Outside of those games there are two other matchups hovering near basic strategy teaser marks, but they have not seen any line movement. The Denver versus New England and Tampa Bay versus Cleveland matchups are a half-point away from qualifying and could turn into one by Sunday. Remember, if you already have a line on the positive side of three or seven, there is no point in using a basic strategy teaser, and a gambler would be better off simply wagering on it straight up.
San Diego Chargers at Miami Dolphins
Spread : Chargers +2
Six-point teaser : Chargers +8
The Chargers got crushed the last time we saw them, but that does not mean that they are no longer an elite team. Any loss to the Denver Broncos is something no one should be ashamed of, and outside of that game San Diego's other two losses on its 5-3 record were by a combined four points. The team's secondary has been downright excellent through the first half of the season, and its offense has looked spectacular at times.
Miami has performed well above expectation during its first seven games of the year, particularly on the defensive end. The squad's bread-and-butter has been rushing the ball, where it is currently ranked sixth in the entire league and averaging 111 yards per game. Bettors my be weary of wagering on the Chargers because of the organization's history of getting complacent after a hot start, but eight points is a great number for a group that throws the ball as much as San Diego. Tease the original spread up and expect a close game.
Philadelphia Eagles at Houston Texans
Spread : Texans +2
Six-point teaser : Texans +8
Houston's 4-4 record is a huge improvement from where the team was last season and where most bettors expected them to be this season. The squad has lost three of four matchups since starting out the year with three of four wins, yet it has stayed within a touchdown in every one of those losses and nearly took victories away from Indianapolis and Dallas. The Texans defense is elite, or at least can be at times, and it can produce big stops at critical points in any game.
Philadelphia has a gaudy record, but the team has not played as well as it might indicate. Three of the Eagles five victories were close games that could have gone either way, and the impressive performance on their resume thus far was the Week 6, 27-point blowout of the New York Giants. That is not to say Philadelphia is not good, and the better team in this matchup, it is only stating the team is not dominant. Expect Houston to play well at home and cover the spread even if they lose the game outright.
