The AFC South is all about one team and one player-the Indianapolis Colts and Andrew Luck. The Colts are currently the largest favorite to win their division, according to the odds at Bovada, and at this point in his career Luck is a regular-season monster who is almost certain to produce 10 or 11 wins a year, the same way his predecessor Peyton Manning did for Indianapolis for most of his career. Let's take a closer look at the AFC South schedule, go over important games and make a few predictions. All odds come from Bovada.
Indianapolis Colts
Super Bowl Odds: +800
AFC South Odds: -400
Games of Consequences : Week 6 against New England; Week 7 against New Orleans; Week 9 against Denver; Week 14 at Pittsburgh; Week 15 against Houston
The Colts have one of the easier schedules in the entire NFL as most of their important games will be played at home. Luck has already shown that cranking out double-digit wins and capturing the AFC South division crown is within his wheelhouse. The question for Indianapolis is whether it can make the leap and become a legitimate Super Bowl contender this season. The squad hasn't done much to improve its non-existent running game, but that issue should not hinder the team during the regular season. Expect another MVP-type year from Luck.
Prediction : 11-5, division champions
Houston Texans
Super Bowl Odds: +5000
AFC South Odds: +450
Games of Consequence : Week 1 against Kansas City; Week 5 against Indianapolis; Week 10 at Cincinnati; Week 12 against New Orleans; Week 14 against New England; Week 15 at Indianapolis
Houston could be a sleeper in the AFC South, and all it really needs to do is improve by a game or two from last season in order to get into the postseason mix. The squad has J.J Watt, perhaps the most dominant player in the league, and will be returning last year's No. 1 pick Jadeveon Clowney, to a defense that has the potential to be dominant. The Texans have a manageable schedule with only one truly difficult road matchup against Indianapolis. Do not be shocked to see Houston in the playoffs this season or in the mix for the division crown.
Prediction : 10-6
Jacksonville Jaguars
Super Bowl Odds: +20000
AFC South Odds: +2000
Games of Consequence : Week 3 and 4 at New England and Indianapolis; Week 6 at Houston; Week 10 at Baltimore; Week 12 against San Diego; Week 14 against Indianapolis; Week 16 at New Orleans
Jacksonville is looking at a 2015 schedule with nine unwinnable games, which would leave seven matchups the team could possibly grab a victory in. The Jaguars, of course, will not win all seven and are probably on course for a three- to five-win season. The first four weeks are particularly brutal for the team, and a 1-6 start is what Jacksonville fans will most likely see. Expect the same type of squad you saw last season, which is a bad team with a bad ATS record.
Prediction : 4-12
Tennessee Titans
Super Bowl Odds: +20000
AFC South Odds: +1200
Games of Consequence : Week 1 at Tampa Bay, Week 3 against Indianapolis, Week 5 against Buffalo, Week 9 at New Orleans, Week 15 at New England, Week 17 at Indianapolis
Tennessee is hoping that the organization has a franchise quarterback in its hands with the No. 2 overall pick in the draft, Marcus Mariota. The rookie may ultimately need a couple of seasons before the Titans can truly know if he is the savior that fans were hoping for. The schedule, however, will not be as patient with Mariota, since the former Oregon quarterback will be thrust into the spotlight from the very first week of the season, when all eyes will be on his matchup against Tampa Bay and draft rival Jameis Winston.
Prediction : 6-10
