Basic Strategy Teasers: Best Week 4 NFL Betting Options
Can anyone tell me what Minnesota was thinking last week? It's like they thought they were on a bye week and didn't even show up for work. The Bills dominated them in every facet of the game, and that Vikings loss essentially ended every NFL Survivor Pool known to man. It was a weird game, but it just goes to show you that "on any given Sunday…" you know the rest of that quote.
Something else I touched on last week was the atrocious roughing the passer penalties being called. Well, Clay Matthews was the victim of a terrible call again, and so was Gerald McCoy, who pushed Ben Roethlisberger a split second after he threw the ball. This week, you can bet on the number of roughing the passer penalties via Bovada . The total is 12 with 40 cents of juice on the "under".
As for last week's Basic Strategy Teaser, it fared just as well as the Vikings did. The Bucs held up their end of the deal with a comeback cover (+7.5) against the Steelers, but the Cowboys proceeded to lay an egg on the road in Seattle.
I watched that entire game, and my eyes were bleeding by the time it was done. Dallas is a very bad football team and are going to waste away Ezekiel Elliott and Dak Prescott's prime years because of mediocre play calling and extremely below-average talent surrounding them. I really like Zeke and Dak, and I think that on any other team they could be one of the most formidable QB/RB combos, but they won't achieve that status with Jason Garrett as the head coach.
But I digress. This week, we have a few betting options that we can plug into the teaser and get a win. So, without further ado, let's jump right into it.
Remember, a Basic Strategy Teaser is a two-team wagering options that allows you to adjust the spread six, six-and-a-half or seven points to get a favorable spread. At Doc's Sports, we only recommend using six-point teasers and moving spreads through key numbers such as three and seven. Houston +7.5 -& Jacksonville -1.5 (-120)
Risk: $100 to win $83.33
It's basically now or never for the Houston Texas as a loss here would take them to 0-4 and all but kill their playoff hopes. The Texans were leading the league in rushing heading into last week's game against the Giants, but they gained 59 yards on the ground, which ultimately sunk the ship. A bad running attack put more pressure on the QB and the passing attack, and the Texans weren't able to execute until late in the fourth quarter. The positive moving forward is that J.J Watt is still a beast and the defense should bounce back against a Colts team that just doesn't look right under the guidance of Andrew Luck. Luck may very well still be hurt, and a game against a good defense will tell the full story. Not to mention, the Texans should be able to get their run-game back on track as the Colts D just gave up 152 yards on the ground to Wendell Smallwood and Corey Clement. It should be noted that the Colts have been lights-out against the Texans at home, winning 14 of the last 16 matchups in Indy. However, those teams were different and have no bearing on this year. However, just in case history does repeat itself, we'll be fully prepared with extra points in our pocket for comfort.
The second part of the teaser features the Jacksonville Jaguars, who will be eager to get back in the win column after falling to Tennessee 9-6 last week. They were without Leonard Fournette in that one and could very well be without him again, but we like T.J. Yeldon and think he will have a big game based on what Carlos Hyde was able to do last week against the Jets defense. The Jags were in a classic letdown spot last week after getting revenge on the Patriots for the AFC title loss. The Jets, meanwhile, blew a lead to a rookie quarterback, while their own rookie quarterback, Sam Darnold, looked average at best against a good defense. Now he must go up against an elite defense, which won't bode well for him. It's always risky to lay more than a touchdown with a team like the Jags who prefer to run the ball and beat you with defense, so by teasing them down using the six-point teaser we can ensure ourselves a victory with a Jaguars win. Over the last three seasons, teams that were playing their third consecutive home games - such as the Jags this week - 31-16-2 ATS in their third home game. I wouldn't hold it against you if you decided to lay the -7.5, but I think there is a higher likelihood of winning this teaser than the Jags covering the eight-point spread.
