Monday Night Football Picks Week 12: Seahawks at Eagles
Happy belated Thanksgiving to all my American friends out there. I hope you had a great Thanksgiving holiday filled with tons of turkey, cold beer and winning bets. As a Canadian, I didn’t have any turkey on Thursday, but I did see a pretty massive one wandering up and down the Cowboy’s sideline disguised as a coach. Yes, that’s right, Mike McCarthy got roasted to a crisp on Thursday for his team’s effort and bonehead play calling. One awful fake punt that failed and throwing the ball on fourth and inches when you have a running back like Ezekiel Elliott in the backfield – from your own side of the field no less. I would suspect that the McCarthy experience will be a one-season disaster before Jerry Jones gets rid of him in the offseason. But I digress. Speaking of birds, this week’s matchup features two of them, and I don’t think either of them would make for good meals.
The Seahawks (7-3) and Eagles (3-6-1) could not be more opposite in terms of style of play, and yet both of them have a chance to make the playoffs as division winners. Only in the NFL can a team be three games below .500 and sit atop their division. I expect this contest to be one-sided, and the result should finally put a fork in the Eagles playoffs hopes for good.
Seahawks at Eagles Betting Story Lines
The Seahawks come into this contest on the heels of a much-needed win against their division rivals, Arizona. They were able to hold on to a 28-21 win despite giving Arizona a chance to tie the game in the closing stages. The defense finally stepped up in a big way, limiting the Cardinals to just 31 yards and just 57 of that came on the ground. If the Seahawks are to be taken seriously, the defense will need to continue to improve while the offense maintains its efficient production. The Seahawks now have an extra three days to prepare for an Eagles team that should be ripe for the picking after they lost their second straight contest. The Seahawks will be wise to utilize their 10th ranked rushing attack against Philadelphia’s 25th ranked rushing defense. However, even if the Seahawks prefer to keep the ball in Russell Wilson’s hand (which isn’t the worst idea), the Seahawks should be able to score plenty of points against an Eagles defense that is mediocre all around.
As for the Eagles, they had high expectations entering this season thanks to Carson Wentz regaining full health. To say the season has been an unmitigated disaster would be an understatement. Wentz has been brutal, and the calls to bench him for the recently drafted Jalen Hurts have only gotten louder and louder in recent weeks. The offense is one of the worst in the league, ranking 25th in total yards (356.4), 28th in passing yards (209), 12th in rushing yards (121), 24th in points per game (22) and 28th in third-down percentage. They are simply not getting the job done and as such are well below .500. If the NFC East wasn’t the worst division in pro football history, the Eagles would be throwing in the towel and preparing for next season. However, because of a tie against the lowly Bengals, they currently reside atop the division and have a direct shot at the playoffs, where anything can happen.
Seahawks at Eagles Betting Odds and Trends
Most sportsbooks are offering the Seahawks at -5 (-110), with the total set at 50 (-110). On the moneyline, the Seahawks are anywhere between -230 to -240, while the Eagles are between +195 to +205. The Seahawks are 6-4 ATS after beating the Cardinals last week as small home favorites. They come into this game on an 11-4-1 ATS run in their last 16 Monday games and 6-0 ATS in the last seven meetings with Philadelphia. The Eagles are 3-7 ATS after falling to the Rams as 4.5-point favorites. They come into this game 3-7 ATS in their last 10 home games and just 1-7 ATS in their last 8 following a SU loss.
Seahawks at Eagles Betting Predictions
If this game was taking place on Sunday afternoon with both teams having the same amount of rest days in between, I’d be wary of laying the points with the Seahawks as they come East for an early start. Instead, this game is prime-time Monday night and with the Seahawks having an extra three days of rest/prep, I don’t see them laying an egg in this spot. They are the better team on both sides of the ball, and the defense should be able to step their game up another notch and contain this weak Eagles attack. Wilson and Co should be able to put up plenty of points, and we have no issues laying the points with the Seahawks as we look to extend our winning streak to four straight games.
Play: Seattle Seahawks -5
