Monday Night Football Picks: Washington Commanders vs San Francisco 49ers Best Bets

This week’s edition of Monday Night Football features two teams having very different seasons so far. The Washington Commanders are headed to the Bay Area to take on the undefeated San Francisco 49ers. Both teams are coming off of exhilarating games, though the 49ers were able to take down their division foe Seattle, while the Commanders had to settle for a tie after some poor clock management down the stretch in overtime. The big storyline to follow in this one is whether or not Jayden Daniels can get more comfortable running the offense again, and whether or not he can do enough to take down the 5-0 49ers.

Monday Night Football Washington Commanders vs San Francisco 49ers Game Odds:

Monday Night Football Washington Commanders Game Preview
Washington has limped to a 1-3-1 start to the season, and they now have to take on their toughest opponent thus far. The Commanders are ending a very unsuccessful home stand where they managed to go just 1-1-1. Washington squandered a 19-6 lead, allowing the Giants to score 14 unanswered points in the fourth quarter. Washington allowed over 400 yards of offense to a Giants team without their starting quarterback. Washington did force two Giants turnovers, but they still struggled in Daniels’ return. Offensively, Washington ranks in the middle of the league rankings in offense as they average 327.4 YPG and 23 PPG. Defensively, the Commanders have allowed 350.4 YPG and 29.8 PPG.
Daniels was fine through the air, but he really made an impact with his legs. He tallied 103 rushing yards on nine carries, and he scored two rushing touchdowns. This will once again have an impact in this game. San Francisco does have an aggressive and stout defense, but if Daniels trusts his legs, the 49ers will lose contain and he will find some open grass ahead of him. Washington absolutely has to limit the turnovers in this one. San Francisco is the better team, so the Commanders will need to protect the ball in this if they want to pick up an important road win.

Monday Night Football San Francisco 49ers Game Preview
The 49ers are coming off a highly emotional victory over the Seattle Seahawks, in Seattle. They forced four turnovers, and limited Seattle’s success on third down. While this was definitely a defensive minded game, Mike Evans and Christian McCaffery still made some noteworthy plays. McCaffery finished with 83 total yards and a touchdown while Evans recorded 113 of Purdy’s 189 passing yards. Renardo Green picked off Darnold twice, and Fred Warner ended up with a team best 10 tackles. Dre Greenlaw let his emotions get the better of him in this one, and he received a one-game suspension for headbutting a helmetless opponent. Through the first five weeks of the season San Francisco ranks ninth in the NFL in YPG (365) and third in PPG (30.8). On defense, they rank sixth in allowed YPG (297.2) and third in PPG allowed (18.6).
San Francisco really needs to shut down Daniels in this one in order to move to 6-0. If the 49ers can spy Daniels successfully and not lose contain, they should have no issues winning this one. Offensively, the 49ers need to keep their veteran playmakers involved and Brock Purdy needs to limit the turnovers. The 49ers do have a lengthy injury report, as they always do, but they are still the better team.

Monday Night Football Game Predictions
Take the 49ers to cover in this one as I could see this one getting away from Washington early. While losing Greenlaw for this one hurts, the 49ers have enough on defense to draw up a successful game plan that limits Daniels’ impact in this one. The 49ers playmakers will prove to be too much for the Washington defense to handle. Expect Washington to keep this interesting in the first half, but San Francisco will eventually pull away. I also expect a fairly high scoring game, with the 49ers potentially pushing 40 on their own, so take the over as well.
My Pick: San Francisco 49ers, -7.5 / Over 50.5
