Monday Night Football Picks: New York Giants vs Los Angeles Rams Best Bets

Monday Night Football will feature two teams that are coming off of very different results in their opening matchups of the season. The New York Giants are coming off a big win over the Dallas Cowboys where the defensive line showed that they may one of the best units in the league. After a strong first half, John Harbaugh was able to pick up his first of many wins with the Giants, taking down Dallas 28-20. Jaxson Dart got it done in the air and on the ground, and this roster suddenly looks dangerous with the return of Malik Nabers. As for the Los Angeles Rams, they came into the season as the Super Bowl favorites. And while they still are, they were brutally beaten down by the San Francisco 49ers in Australia to start their season. The Rams didn’t score at all in the second half, and the Myles Garrett experience was rather underwhelming as the star got injured and failed to make the stat sheet.

New York Giants Game Preview
The Giants are off to a good start picking up a key division win from the get go. They are now looking to start 2-0 for the first time in a while, but they have an incredibly tough road test standing in their way. New York was able to outgain the Cowboys by 150 yards, with the Giants dominating the ground game on both sides of the ball. One of the biggest takeaways was the Giants’ ability to keep the Cowboys defense on the field, wearing them down play after play. Dart was a very efficient passer on Sunday Night, completing 23 of his 29 passes and recording three touchdowns. He added another 54 yards on the ground. Cam Skattebo displayed his tough running ability as he averaged 4.5 yards per carry on 18 carries for a total of 81 yards and a touchdown. Rookie Arvell Reese had a solid debut as he totaled five tackles, one tackle for loss, and a QB hit.
The Giants defensive line will need to reproduce their dominance in this one in order to make Matthew Stafford uncomfortable, and force them to beat them on the ground. Another key will be for New York to control the clock. The Giants had five possessions that took over four minutes of game clock and totaled over 10 plays. They will need to be that methodical if they want to pull off the upset win here.
New York Giants 3 Keys to Victory
- Control Time of Possession
- Cam Skattebo getting established early to open up the game for Dart
- Limit the turnovers
New York Giants Injuries
CB Deonte Banks – Questionable
LB Micah McFadden – Questionable
Los Angeles Rams Game Preview
The Rams took a beating both on the scoreboard and on the field. They lost Garrett to a knee injury that put him on the Injured Reserve, and now they are going to be without safety Kamren Kinchens, wide receiver Puka Nacua has a hip injury, and wide receiver Jordan Whittington is listed as doubtful. The 49ers defense made Stafford uncomfortable and shaky throughout the game. They held him to 155 yards passing and recorded an interception off the veteran quarterback. In addition to the interception, the Rams also fumbled the ball away, losing the turnover battle and they were just 2/9 on third down conversions. Blake Corum had a solid game, leading the backfield with 54 rushing yards on 10 carries. Nacua accounted for nearly half of the Rams receiving yards as he tallied 74 yards on five receptions. Safety Quentin Lake had himself a nice game as well as he led the team with 10 total tackles, recorded an interception, and broke up three more passes.
One of the biggest keys not only in this game, but the season, is for Stafford to regain composure and dominate again. The Rams will need him to do better in this game against the Giants, and this is no easy task with Abdul Carter and Brian Burns closing in on either side off the edge. Stafford will be without one key receiver, and maybe two if Nacua regresses between now and kickoff. While the Giants do have some secondary issues, Stafford still has to go out there and show that he can be a productive quarterback and lead this team to a possible Super Bowl victory. Another storyline to follow here is Aaron Donald’s return to the field, though he will be without his running mate in Garrett for a few weeks.
Los Angeles Rams 3 Keys to Victory
- Make Jaxson Dart beat them in the air
- Exploit the Giants secondary
- Establish the ground game
Los Angeles Rams Injuries
WR Puka Nacua – Questionable
S Kamren Kinchens – Out
WR Jordan Whittington – Doubtful
DE Myles Garrett - IR
New York Giants vs Los Angeles Rams Monday Night Football Game Predictions
While crossing time zones is a tough ask, it is hard to quickly write off the Giants. They looked solid in their opener against the Cowboys, and the Rams looked rather underwhelming. If Dart can keep his momentum from last week going here, I think the Giants keep this one close and possibly take home a win. The Rams have a lot of questions to answer in this game, but the injuries certainly limit their elite status potential that we all thought they had heading into the season. Stafford will need a big game from his running backs and Davante Adams if the Rams want to hold off a hungry Giants team that is looking to reestablish themselves as a playoff team. I am taking the Giants cover here, and the under on the game total. Looks for both teams to establish the run early and try and produce long drives as each side battles for better time of possession.
