After a full day of football on Sunday, we will be gifted a great matchup on Monday Night. The Philadelphia Eagles are traveling to the not so friendly confines of Soldier Field as they square off against the Chicago Bears. The Eagles are off to a 2-0 start, though it is worth noting that both games were close. While this does show confidence that the Eagles can close out games, they like to make things interesting with turnovers and inconsistencies across the field. As for Chicago, their biggest question sits with who will be under center for this one. Caleb Williams suffered what appeared to be a non-contact injury to his hamstring and he is considered week-to-week. Backup quarterback Tyson Bagent suffered a concussion and is in concussion protocol. In a normal week, this would be a strong conference matchup, but injuries on both sides of the ball may limit the sparks in this one.

Philadelphia Eagles Monday Night Football Game Preview

The Eagles have narrowly escaped with two wins to open the season as they have taken down the Washington Commanders by two and the Tennessee Titans by four. In their last game against the Titans, the Eagles took the lead on a touchdown catch by Darius Cooper with just nine seconds remaining in the game. Unfortunately, a lot of the team got a bit banged up. Saquon Barkley barely played after a stinger, and players like DeVonta Smith, Dallas Goedert, and Tank Bigsby have not practiced. When healthy, this offense is one of the better units in the NFL. Defensively, the Eagles have not looked as dominant as in recent years, but they hold opponents to just 293 YPG.

One of the biggest factors in this game is the quarterback situation for Chicago. Even with a potentially lengthy injury report for the Eagles does not compare in the injury situation with the Bears quarterback room. If the Eagles can get to the quarterback early and often, this game will be low scoring like last week. Another factor that would lead to an Eagles’ victory would be for Barkley to get going early and often and reestablish himself as the focal point of the offense. If the Eagles can apply defensive pressure and avoid turning the ball over on offense, this should be an easy win.

Chicago Bears Monday Night Football Game Preview

Chicago is in an interesting situation thanks to the injuries at quarterback. With Williams likely out, the offense is definitely going to see a decrease in production. While weather did impede their performance last week, this week will look very similar as they square off against the tout Eagles defense. Heading into this week, the Bears rank third in the NFL with 424.5 YPG. They are also averaging 31 PPG, but that has all been done with Williams leading the offense. Expect a vastly different showing here. The defense has been subpar thus far as they are allowing over 360 total YPG.  

With the quarterback questions ahead of this one, Ben Johnson needs to ensure that he can get the running game going. The problem is Kyle Monangai is also questionable, and he has carried a good load of carries along with D’Andre Swift. Regardless, the run game is going to be in a better situation than the quarterback position. Chicago is also going to have to sound on defense in order to win this ball game. The secondary is going to have to capitalize on mistakes that the defensive line is going to need to force with pressure on hurts. The Titans showed a solid blueprint of about 55 minutes on how to beat this Eagles team, now the Bears are going to try and finish the job.

Even with it being a road game, my money is on the Eagles to cover and pull out an ugly win at Solider Field. This game is going to be full of backups with all the injuries with both teams, but the Eagles are going to have steadiness at the quarterback position. The Eagles defense should shut down the Bears offense, and the Eagles offense should get it done against the Bears defense. This game has all the feels of a 3-3 game at halftime, but don’t be surprised when the Eagles find a way to close out another win later in the game. As for the game total, the under is definitely the play. The Bears will be lucky to get to 10 points, And with all the injuries at the skill positions for Philadelphia, do not expect them to light up the scoreboard either.
