Best NFL Teaser Bets Week 4: Basic Strategy Teasers
Welcome to another week of betting in the National Football League. As you guys know, it is not easy to attack these point spreads every week. The sportsbooks know what they are doing, and the games are lined accordingly.
The public tends to chase a lot of betting favorites, and maybe their team wins but fails to cover the spread. Okay, so as bettors, we get sharper and attack the underdogs. Many times, though, we get underdogs of less than +3 points.
Our wager could easily lose by a late field goal as the favorite covers. I wish there were a way to make those small underdogs into sizable dogs.
Have you heard of a basic strategy teaser? They are incredibly valuable! You're missing out if they aren't at least a piece of your betting spread for the week.
Doc’s Sports offers NFL picks for every game on our NFL predictions page.
What is a Teaser?
A teaser is a type of parlay wager where the bettor can change the odds in their favor. That, of course, comes at a price. Normally, when you parlay two games at (-110) each, you get a payout of (+264).
A teaser would only pay at (-120), but it's a step away from greed. Anytime we can do that as bettors, we are doing ourselves a massive favor.
There is already an excellent strategy for teasers in place to give us an even better chance of winning.
What is a Basic Strategy Teaser?
A basic strategy teaser means we want to tease an underdog of (+1.5) to (+2.5) up to (+7.5) to (+8.5). If we want to tease a betting favorite, we are taking betting odds of (-1.5) to (-2.5) to cover (-7.5) to (-8.5).
Why do we choose these lines?
They all move through two key numbers, three and seven. Three points is the most common point differential in the NFL, with more than 15% of games ending by an exact difference of three. Seven is the second most common key number, as it hits 8.5% of the time.
Another critical element of the basic strategy teaser goes for almost every parlay in general, and that is to keep it at just two legs. Do not get greedy.
Personally, I prefer teasing underdogs. We are 3-0 on our teasers this season, and only one of the six teams teased were betting favorites.
Week 4 NFL Potential Teaser Games
Seattle Seahawks (+1.5) @ New York Giants (-1.5)
Spoiler alert. The Seattle Seahawks will be one-half of our Week 4 NFL basic strategy teaser.
I was a little surprised when I first saw this betting line. I thought it should've been flipped, but traveling to the east will bring some jetlag. The Seahawks lost in Week 1 to the Rams but have won their next two games, scoring 37 points in each contest.
We picked against the New York Giants last week on a play for the Niners to cover 10.5 points. They were good to cover 30. I know Seattle isn't San Francisco, but the Giants stink. The New York defense ranks 30th in both yards/play allowed and points/play.
Baltimore Ravens (+2.5) @ Cleveland Browns (-2.5)
This game has close contest written all over it. Or does it?
The two teams rank No. 1 and No. 2 in the NFL in yards/play allowed. It should be noted, however, that Cleveland is giving up 3.2 while the Ravens defense is at 4.1.
The home team is supposed to get three points. Does that mean that Baltimore is favored? I am not quite sold on the Ravens yet, though.
Each team has lost its star running back for the season but still ranks in the Top 10 in yards/carry.
What is keeping me away from teasing the Ravens up here is that they don’t have the ability to stretch the field and aren’t as likely to backdoor cover if needed as a passing team.
Miami Dolphins (+2.5) @ Buffalo Bills (-2.5)
Speaking of passing teams, the Miami Dolphins need no introduction at this point. They were without their #2 playmaker on Sunday and still scored 70 points.
I don't like betting against the Buffalo Bills here, but I will do it. I checked the weather, and at least for now, we are looking at clear skies and a moderate breeze of 7 MPH.
Detroit Lions (-1.5) @ Green Bay Packers (+1.5)
Okay guys, if you are reading this before Thursday night’s game, add in the Packers to the teaser with the Seahawks. I love this play!
The Green Bay Packers are home underdogs against the division rival. I believe Detroit is better put together, but going on the road on a short week banged up will likely keep the game close.
If you're reading this after Thursday night, that's okay. We are going to replace the Packers with the Dolphins. There could be a letdown for the Fish. However, as long as Tua Tagovailoa is out there, I feel very confident in a meaningless late score keeping us in the green.
Week 4 NFL Basic Strategy Teaser Prediction
Seattle Seahawks (+7.5) and Miami Dolphins (+8.5): -120
