NFL Teasers Betting: Best Basic Strategy Options for Week 6
by George Monroy - 10/8/2014
Heading into Week 6 of the NFL season, basic strategy teasers are 11-5 on the year and falling slightly behind the break-even mark. The bets, which are two-team, six-point teasers, need to win at a 73 percent rate to become profitable, but they do statistically come in near that mark over the long term. The best way to wager on a basic strategy teaser is to only bet on the strongest teasers of the week in order to maximize your win rate and profit on the year.
This week there are only three games that fall into the teaser category, and a few others that are hovering near basic strategy territory and could turn into a qualifying teaser before Sunday. Let's take a closer look at Week 6's basic strategy teaser games with predictions and analysis.
Dallas Cowboys at Seattle Seahawks
Six-point teaser : Seahawks -2
Dallas may be receiving a lot of hype after starting the year with an impressive 4-1 NFC East division-leading record, which continues to look great on paper; but not so much in real life. The team nearly reverted back to its old Cowboys ways by giving up 10 points during the final minutes of a game it had been dominating against the Texans last week, and eventually they held on to win on overtime. Dallas also needed a huge comeback against St. Louis back in Week 3 and could easily be sitting on a 2-3 record.
Seattle, on the other hand, barely needed to exert itself on Monday night to dominate an overmatched Washington squad. The team is refocused after an early loss and should be able to dominate a mistake-prone Dallas team. The matchup could be close, and Seattle might not even cover the original spread, but teasing the line down to two points is a solid teaser and the best of the week.
Carolina Panthers at Cincinnati Bengals
Spread : Bengals -8
Six-point teaser : Bengals -2
Prior to last week's embarrassing loss during a tough road game against the struggling New England Patriots, Cincinnati had looked and performed like the best team in the league, going 3-0 and winning each by double-digit margins. The loss should not have much barring on how bettors view the Bengals going forward as no team in the NFL would have beaten New England during that game.
Carolina is coming off a solid come-from-behind victory over Chicago last week but has played much worse than its 3-2 record would indicate, and outside of a solid Week 2 victory over Detroit it has not looked impressive all season. The Panthers have struggled to defend against passing teams and could get into trouble early with Andy Dalton on the field. Cincinnati being teased below three points is an excellent spot to bet on.
New York Giants at Philadelphia Eagles
Spread : Giants +2.5
Six-point teaser : Giants +8.5
New York has finally gotten back to what it does best in pounding the ball with the run and then creating room for Eli Manning to speed up the offense with the passing game. The Giants struggled the first two weeks but have since looked like a new team after beating Houston, Washington and Atlanta impressively.
Sunday's matchup will have huge implications for the NFC East as the Cowboys are probably facing a loss against the Seahawks, so a win by Philadelphia would put them in sole possession of the division lead. The Eagles may be 4-1, but they have not played like an NFC powerhouse and either fall behind early in games or give up big leads. Expect a close game during this matchup and for the end result to stay within a touchdown on either side.
