NFL Betting Predictions: Week 7 Opening Line Report and Picks
The Falcons and Giants won their first game of the season during Week 6, leaving the New York Jets as the only winless team in the NFL this season.
It’s been a miserable last couple of seasons for the Jets behind head coach Adam Gase. There’s always something. There’s always a problem. This team isn't responding and is now 0-6 against the spread along with being 0-6 straight up. At many outlets, the Jets were double-digit underdogs to the Miami Dolphins at around -9 or -10.
Gase has watched stars like Robby Anderson, Jamal Adams, and Le’Veon Bell all walk away from this team after each player specifically said that they would love to help build a winning culture in New York.
Instead, the Jets elected to side with Gase so Sam Darnold could morph into the quarterback they’ve always hoped for. Yet, they’ve given Darnold no weapons to work with and no time in the pocket.
At 0-6, the Jets have a very high chance at getting that first overall pick. Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence is a generational talent that will likely be the No. 1 pick of the draft. Did you watch Clemson against Georgia Tech on Saturday? Lawrenece is absolutely the real deal.
Gase and the Jets front office care so much about Darnold, but he hasn’t even played the last two games due to an injury. Meanwhile, players are giving up, and the team is not happy with Gase’s coaching.
At this point, if Gase is still coaching the Jets, he’ll remain head coach for the remainder of the season. Maybe it’s best at this point. Lose 16 straight and bring in Lawrence along with a new coach.
The Cardinals selected Josh Rosen as their franchise quarterback but quickly turned their back on him when Kyler Murray opted to play football over baseball. He was a generational talent that couldn’t be passed up.
I’m not sure what the plan is moving forward for the Jets. However, if Gase is the Jets head coach next season and Trevor Lawrence isn’t quarterback, the misery will continue for Jets fans as long as they live.
Jets vs Bills (-11.5, TBD): The Jets are going to be anywhere from +11.5 to +12.5 against the spread in this game. Darnold is still questionable to play in this one as Gase gave no good answer when asked about his status. We’re starting to hear rumors that the Colts might be interested in trading for Darnold, which, honestly, is a perfect spot for him to thrive. The Jets are so incompetent that we’ll likely see Flacco start another game against the AFC East leader in the Buffalo Bills. Bills likely win this game by at least two touchdowns, if not more. The Bills defeated the Jets by 10 in Week 1. That will likely double in this one. Pick: Bills.
Titans vs Steelers (-1.5, 52.5): The Titans and Steelers have both started their seasons off with a bang. Both teams are 5-0, but one team will likely have a loss in the standings afterward. The Steelers have been fantastic defensively, holding teams to just 18.8 points per game. They’re getting pressure on the quarterback, and they’re getting a solid amount of turnovers. The big difference in this game is Pittsburgh run defense. They’ve allowed just 66.2 yards per game on the ground, and the Titans rush for 157.8 yards per game with Derrick Henry doing most of the work. If the Steelers can keep Henry in check, the Steelers will win this one outright. Pick: Steelers
49ers vs Patriots (-2.5, 45.5): When everyone counted out the NFC’s top team last season, the 49ers put on a show against the Rams and won on Sunday Night Football. Meanwhile, the Patriots couldn’t find offense behind Cam Newton, and the offense and fell short against the Denver Broncos at home. This isn’t the same Patriots offense. Newton makes mistakes. And while the defense has done their job, the offense really hasn’t all season long. There’s no passing attack. The Patriots are a run-first football team. However, they’ve done well holding teams out of the endzone. That should continue here. It’ll be fun watching Jimmy Garoppolo face his former team in the Patriots. We’ll always wonder what it could’ve been if the Patriots had kept him up to this point. He’ll make them pay, that’s for sure. Pick: 49ers.
