NFL Betting Predictions: Week 8 Opening Line Report and Picks
The NFC East is wacky. The Eagles are leading the division with a 2-4-1 record. The Eagles have allowed 196 points and have scored 163 points, yet they’re in prime position to make the playoffs.
We’ve had interesting storylines in the NFC East this week. Because the Giants played the Eagles on Thursday night, Daniel Jones and Saquan Barkley spent some time out at a bar without a mask.
They claimed that the video of them hanging out was last year, but the media has rebutted that and has said it was this season.
The Giants, at 1-6, still have a chance to win the NFC East with a little win streak. But knowing your two star players aren’t following protocol can’t be a good thing. There’s potential that both of these players might receive some kind of punishment from the NFL or the Giants. There also might have been other Giants teammates involved in this.
If Jones has to sit out of a couple games this season, the Giants don’t have any shot at the division. But the same goes for the Cowboys.
A couple weeks after Dak Prescott was sidelined for the year, Andy Dalton had to leave the game on Sunday against the Football Team due to a vicious hit by Jon Bostic. It was an extremely dirty hit, but the Cowboys players didn’t bother picking Dalton up after the hit.
The players went to make sure Dalton was okay. But they didn’t retaliate and push and shove with Bostic after the hit. Many are concerned that the Cowboys aren’t bought in on the season with Mike McCarthy as head coach.
The Cowboys have struggled in every area of football. The defense has been awful. Injuries have bit the franchise hard, and this team absolutely looks unprepared. But there’s no excuse. The Eagles, who are atop of the division with two wins and a tie, have had even more injuries on the season.
This division is a disaster, but the Football Team remains confident that they can win the division, even with their “first quarterback” not starting anymore. Kyle Allen is now the guy. So there’s that.
Cowboys vs Eagles (TBD, TBD): There’s no lines for this game simply due to the fact that Andy Dalton is questionable after that late hit from Bostic. Every game in the NFC East has playoff implications, which is quite concerning. The winner of this game will take over first place in the standings with just three wins halfway into the season. The Eagles have a pulse. The Cowboys really don’t. No matter if Dalton is quarterback or Ben DiNucci is quarterback, the Cowboys haven’t shown anything offensively without Dak Prescott under center. As Carson Wentz starts to get his weapons back, the Eagles will start to run away with the division. Pick: Eagles.
Steelers vs Ravens (-4, 47): The Steelers are one game above the Ravens in the AFC North standings. The Steelers had a huge lead against the Titans wiped away in the second half but ultimately forced a missed field goal and defeated another undefeated team in the Tennessee Titans. Meanwhile, the Ravens are coming off a bye week, giving them another week to prepare against the Steelers. The Steelers have been one of the best rushing defenses in the league all season. But it’ll be hard to stop the Ravens, who rush for 164.3 yards per game on the ground. This will be another good game. The edge goes to the Steelers with their run game. If oddsmakers are giving an undefeated team four points, it’s time to take it. Pick: Steelers
49ers vs Seahawks (-3, 54): We’ve got so many exciting rivalry games. This is another one. Despite Seattle losing to Arizona on Sunday night, the Seahawks are still 5-1 on the season and can still be labeled as a top five team in the league. However, the Seahawks defense has been a bit concerning thus far this season and the 49ers offense continues to roll with Jimmy Garoppolo back from injury. The Seahawks proved that they can be beat with a good enough defense. The 49ers won’t get many stops, but they can get enough stops for this offense against a poor Seahawks defense. Pick: 49ers.
