Best NFL Teaser Bets Week 2: Basic Strategy Teasers Advice

One week of football is in the books and the overreactions are already flying. Arizona knocked off the Chargers as a double-digit underdog, the Giants took care of business on Sunday night and beat Dallas, and half the league looks nothing like what everybody predicted back in August. Week 2 is already here, and now is the time where we find out which of those games meant something and which ones were a fluke.
Weeks like this are made for teasers. Buying yourself six points takes the guesswork out of games that come down to a late field goal, and the Week 2 schedule has handed us four games that check that box. So let's keep the momentum rolling and get things going for another weekend of football.
Doc’s Sports offers NFL expert picks for every game on our NFL predictions page.
What is a Teaser?
Think of a teaser as buying yourself some breathing room. You are taking two or more sides and paying for the privilege of moving each spread in whichever direction helps you. The tradeoff is a smaller payout, which is fair since the books are not handing out points for free.
Where people get into trouble is treating it like a regular parlay and piling on several legs. Every team you add is another way to lose, and a teaser is still an all-or-nothing ticket.
What is a Basic Strategy Teaser?
Football scoring is built around field goals and touchdowns, which is why games land on three and seven more than any other number. Six points is the third most common margin. Move a spread from -6 to Pick and you gained nothing, because you never touched a number that decides games.
Basic strategy means going through both of them. Two legs, six points each. Underdogs need to be sitting +1.5 to +2.5 so they end up at +7.5 to +8.5. Favorites need to be laying -7.5 to -8.5 so they land at -1.5 to -2.5.
Before anybody gets excited, make sure you take a good look at the price. Two teams at six points should land around -110 odds. Once it gets worse than -120, you are paying more than those points are worth.
Potential Week 2 NFL Teaser Games
Jaguars (+2.5) at Broncos (-2.5) Total: 45.5
Teasing Jacksonville up to +8.5 gives you a full touchdown and change against a Denver team fresh off a beatdown from the Chiefs. Mile High altitude is always a factor to take into account, but Jacksonville's offense has more than enough firepower to keep this game well within a one-score window.
Panthers (-2.5) at Falcons (+2.5) Total: 43.5
Carolina’s defense got completely humiliated in Week 1, giving up 59 points to Chicago, while Atlanta stunk it up in a low-scoring loss to Pittsburgh. Neither team is capable of running anyone off the field right now. In a tight divisional battle with a modest 43.5 total, teasing Atlanta from +2.5 up to +8.5 provides the cushion for when this game will get tight.
Saints (+8.5) at Ravens (-8.5) Total: 47.5
New Orleans pushed Detroit to overtime in Week 1, but playing in Baltimore is a much tougher test. Baltimore teased down to -1.5 leaves the Ravens needing just a basic two-point win at home. Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry give the Ravens a level of offensive firepower this Saints defense isn't built to contain over four quarters. With the total sitting at 47.5, moving the home favorite inside a field goal takes a multi-score cover off the board and could be a steal here.
Browns (+8.5) at Buccaneers (-8.5) Total: 41.5
Here is the strongest favorite leg on the board. Tampa Bay down to -2.5 gets the home favorite under that key three-point mark, which is a massive break against a Cleveland team struggling for answers behind a banged-up offensive line and a rusty Deshaun Watson. Baker Mayfield has a great bounce-back spot at home after dropping one in Cincinnati. This 41.5 total feels way too low, too—Tampa Bay has the ability to drop 30+ points on their own, and the Browns offense should chip in just enough to help.
Week 2 NFL Basic Strategy Teaser Pick
Pick: Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-2.5) and Jacksonville Jaguars (+8.5)
