2017 Season Win Total Prediction: 'Under'

Never forget that the Dallas Cowboys have been seeped in the stench of loser for most of the Jerry Jones era. Sure, they had a nice little five-year run back when VCRs were still a thing. But over the last 30 years the Cowboys have had a winning record less than half of the time. Dallas is coming off 13 wins last year, their best regular season since 1992. But they have won 10 or more games just five times in the last 18 years, and I don't see them doing it in back-to-back seasons.

Dallas simply bulldozed teams last year with the best offensive line in football. Teams simply couldn't hold up under the onslaught of the Cowboys' three-All-Pro linemen. And that blockade propped up rookies Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliot, allowing them to put up their eye-popping numbers.

All three All-Pros are back. But the other two linemen, both of whom were underrated, are gone with no clear replacements. Also, left tackle Tyron Smith is having back issues in training camp. If the Cowboys lose anyone else on this line then they will be in trouble. Prescott still has plenty of weapons, and Dallas has one of the best collections of skill players in football. However, it call comes back to that line.

The Cowboys defense is a bit of a mess as well. They ditched all four starters from their secondary and could end up starting two rookie corners. Guys like Odell Beckham, Alshon Jeffery and Terrelle Pryor should floss their teeth with these newbies. And if either Sean Lee, who has a lengthy injury history, or Orlando Scandrick, who has played only 16 games once in the last five years, gets hurt then the back seven is going to crumble.

Dallas beat their Pythagorean Win Total by over two games last year. The fact that they are so-called "America's Team" instantly makes them overrated. And when you factor in Jason Garrett's impressive history of underperforming, you have a Cowboys team that I think is setting backers up for a fall. It was just three years ago that they busted out with a 12-4 mark only to throw up on themselves during a four-win campaign the next season.

I don't think Dallas is going to experience that significant of a tumble. But I also know these guys can't be trusted. The Cowboys are losers. They are overrated losers. And if they lose at home to the Giants in Week 1 - a team that has beaten Dallas three straight times - then a 1-4 start for the Cowboys isn't out of the question. They also have two separate stretches with three road games in four weeks, including their last four games of the season.

Don't believe the hype. Play Dallas 'under'.
