Is Tom Brady still in New England? Is Bill Belichick still there? Then the Patriots are still the clear-cut favorites to win the Super Bowl this year. And you know what, I'm am sure as hell not betting against them.

Somehow, the Patriots actually got better in the offseason following their thrilling Super Bowl victory last February. And not just a little better; the Patriots got a lot better. Brandin Cooks was added to bolster an already loaded receiving corps. Stephon Gilmore is a stud cornerback set to take over opposite Malcolm Butler. Tony Ealy was picked up on the cheap to rush the passer. Mike Gillislee jumped over from Buffalo to give the running game some thump. And then the Patriots absolutely stole David Harris from the rival Jets.

The Patriots add those players to a team that was already a championship. Throw in the fact that the AFC East is populated by some of the most middling and incompetent franchises in sports, and New England is a shoo-in to win their ninth straight division title.

There really is no weakness here. New England's offensive line isn't overwhelming. But it's more than good enough. The offense added enough pieces that they could eclipse last year's production. This year's defense, which finished No. 1 in points allowed last season, could actually be the best that the Patriots have fielded in a decade.

New England has won more than 12 regular-season games only once in the last five years. And that came last season after an extremely motivated Pats group overcame Brady's four-game suspension during their Mission Season. They've won more than 12 games in the regular season only four times during the last 12 years. So that 12.5 number may not be as enticing as it appears.

I don't bet against the Patriots. Ever. Not as long as Brady and Belichick are at the helm. New England has been a statistically anomaly for nearly 20 years and it is because of their greatness. There is no money to be made in going against this group, so I have to take the 'over'.
