2025 Carolina Panthers Season Win Total Picks

Hope is the oxygen of fools.
Last season Carolina went 5-12. It was their seventh straight losing season and the fifth time in six years that they won five or fewer games. This is not a serious organization.
Yet, all anyone wants to talk about with Carolina is the “progress” that they showed at the end of last year. The buzz around the league heading into 2025 is that somehow that “momentum” the Panthers built late last season will carry over into this fall.
About that.
Yes, Carolina won two of its last three games and went 4-5 in their last nine to close out the campaign. That’s major progress for these losers. But let’s take a look at those wins:
They beat the Saints (one of the worst teams in the league) at home by one point. They beat the Giants (one of the worst teams in the league) by three in overtime. They beat Arizona (a non-playoff team) at home in overtime. And they beat Atlanta (a non-playoff team) in overtime in Week 18.
Sure, they were also competitive with the Chiefs and Eagles, losing those two games by nine points. They also got bombed by the Cowboys (by 16) and Tampa Bay (by 34).
So why should we be buying into Carolina heading into this season when they were a few OT bounces (against bad teams) away from being 2-15 for the second straight year?

CAROLINA PANTHERS 2025 OFFENSE
I’ve already written at length about the utter stupidity of starting rookie quarterbacks. But let Bryce Young be just another example of why young signal callers shouldn’t see the field until their second season (at the earliest).
After almost having his career sabotaged because he was forced to start before he was ready, Young showed some flashes in the second half of last season. He wasn’t great. But “passable” was a major upgrade for this little sprite.
Young is still just 6-22 as a starter. He’s barely completed 60 percent of his 911 career passes. And he has just 26 touchdowns to 19 interceptions.
There is some tantalizing young skill position talent around Young. Chuba Hubbard looks like the real deal in the backfield. And they followed Detroit’s proven early 00’s strategy of using first round picks on receivers in back-to-back seasons (Xavier Legette in 2024 and Tet McMillan in 2025). Throw in undrafted gem Jalen Coker and there are some weapons in this attack.
Will it result in anything more than last year’s offense, which finished No. 29 in total yards and No. 30 in passing? I’ll believe it when I see it. Though Dave Canales is giving himself some options on this side of the ball.
CAROLINA PANTHERS 2025 DEFENSE
Last year the Panthers fielded one of the worst defenses in NFL history.
Carolina allowed the most points ever in a single season (534) and were ripped for 404.5 yards and 31.4 points per game. The Panthers could not stop the run at all, surrendering 179.8 yards per game on the ground and 5.2 yards per carry.
For some teams, a 12.8 defensive yards per point would be an indicator of some bad luck. Luck had nothing to do with it for Carolina last year. These guys just sucked.
Defensive injuries were an issue last year. But the primary problem in 2024 is that they just didn’t have any talent.
I don’t know how much better they are going to be on that side of the ball this year. Carolina will have at least five new defensive starters. None of their free agent pickups – Tershawn Wharton, Patrick Jones, Christian Rozeboom, Tre’von Moehrig or M.J. Devonshire – move the needle or can be expected to have some massive impact.
Carolina used four draft picks between rounds 2-5 on defensive players. They are still rookies, though, and it is questionable how much they will contribute.
If the Panthers don’t make major strides on this side of the ball there is no reason to think they will be any better than a five-win team again this year.

CAROLINA PANTHERS 2025 SEASON PICKS AND PREDICTIONS
Carolina is just 29-71 in its last 100 games. Last season they were outscored by a league-worst 193 points, for an average of 11.4 points per game.
Why should we expect anything better out of this group?
Sure, Carolina has a more favorable schedule. Their defense shouldn’t be historically bad again (we think) and they may not get hit quite as hard with injuries.
But even if everything breaks right for the Panthers, what is their ceiling? These guys are just +400 to win the NFC South (which they haven’t done since 2015) and just +250 to make the playoffs (which they haven’t done since 2017). Are you kidding me? What about this roster makes you think: playoffs?
Much like our No. 32 team, the Browns, Carolina doesn’t get the benefit of the doubt. The Panthers have failed to top their Vegas season win total in six of the last seven years. I’m playing ‘under’ until they give me reason to think there is any real progress going on in this franchise.
