NFL Picks Against the Spread

There is something glorious about being able to consistently win while betting games against the spread. In the NFL, betting teams against the spread or ATS is the most popular way to bet on football games. A spread is a sportsbook's way of leveling the playing field when two teams hook up and one team is noticeably better than the other one. For each game played, you would see a line that looks like this: New England -7 over New York Jets. That means that the sportsbooks think the Patriots are seven points better than the Jets and as such should win by seven or more points. If Doc's handicapper agrees with the books, they would lay the seven points and take New England Against the Spread. (ATS) If they don't, they would take the Jets Against the Spread (ATS) and have a seven-point cushion with regards to the final score. In today's NFL, the style of play and systems used generally trend towards the over as most teams want to play fast and utilize their team speed and weapons on offense.
