You would be hard-pressed to find a team that had a more disappointing season than the 49ers last year. On second thought, this has been a disappointing team for the last several seasons, as they have been unable to overcome the final hurdle despite possessing a wealth of talent on both sides of the ball. There is optimism in the Bay Area heading into this year, but the fanbase is hesitant to get too excited before they see this team take the field.

Even with the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC, the return of Christian McCaffrey, Dak Prescott, and Aidan Hutchinson to their respective teams, and the Ben Johnson/Caleb Williams era in the Windy City, I still have the AFC as the far more intriguing conference for the 2025 season.

This was cool to see, but the man deserved to be the league's Most Valuable Player, but wasn't considered because he couldn't at least carry his team into postseason contention. Some of this year's candidates include Michigan native and Detroit Lions' edge rushing sensation Aidan Hutchinson.

The Philadelphia Eagles won the second Super Bowl in franchise history last season, and they will attempt to avoid the Super Bowl hangover this year. Philadelphia made it look easy in the postseason, cruising to blowout victories in the conference championship against Washington before embarrassing the Chiefs in the Super Bowl.

The Seattle Seahawks just missed out on a playoff spot last year with a 10-7 record, but the front office was clearly not happy with their previous roster. They mixed things up by shipping Geno Smith out to make space for Sam Darnold at quarterback, and the Seahawks have a sneaky good roster this year capable of surprising the NFC. Will the furious offseason moves pay immediate dividends for the Seahawks, or will it be another middling season for the Seattle fanbase?

Always one of the most intriguing NFL prizes to discuss and predict, the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award has some highly interesting names from top to bottom of the betting board. The Heisman Trophy winner, Travis Hunter, comes in at 10-1 to win the award, but we must keep in mind that he would probably be higher on the list should he only be projected to play on the offensive side of the ball. His two-way style of play brings up more questions, though—more on those in a minute.

It is hard to believe the New York Giants won a playoff game two seasons ago. This team has had a revolving door at quarterback since then, and they hit a new low last year with a 3-14 record. That was the worst showing for the Giants in the last 50 years, but it didn’t earn them a high draft pick as a result. After committing to the rebuild last season, the Giants are taking steps in the right direction heading into 2025.

The Minnesota Vikings are coming off their best regular season since 1998 after they went 14-3 last year. They were unable to translate regular season success into tangible rewards, as they were swiftly bounced in the Wild Card round in embarrassing fashion. This will be a very different Minnesota team this season, as they look to usher in JJ McCarthy as the starting quarterback.

The optimism around the Saints is minimal heading into this season. New Orleans was forced to move on from Derek Carr at quarterback after he retired due to ongoing injuries, and the Saints have missed the playoffs in four straight seasons. However, owner Gayle Brunson refuses to commit to a rebuild, and the Saints have elected to try and win now while delaying their big cap hits to future seasons. Will that be a strategy that pays off for New Orleans, or will it be another lost season with a grim future ahead for the Saints?

A rough 4-8 start for Cincinnati in 2024 limited how far the Bengals would go last season. They opened up the season with three straight losses (by just 12 points combined) and they would limp to a 4-8 record through Week 13. Seven of those eight losses were by one possession. After the slow start, they found a spark and wound up going on a five-game winning streak to close out the regular season. Unfortunately for them, it was too little too late, and they wound up missing the playoffs.

The Pittsburgh Steelers started last season 10-3, with key wins against Baltimore and Washington in back-to-back weeks. Unfortunately for them, their season quickly flipped as they lost their last four regular season games and finished with a -52-point differential in that span. After finishing second in the AFC North with a 10-7 record, the Steelers would see a quick exit in the playoffs as they lost to the Ravens by 14 in the Wild Card Round. Their +33-point differential was the lowest among all playoff teams from last season.

The Cleveland Browns finished at the bottom of the AFC North and the bottom of the league standings. They finished with a 3-14 record which was tied with the Giants and Titans as the worst in record in the NFL. Their -177-point differential was the second worst mark in the league ahead of only Carolina. They managed just one road win last season which came in Week 2 against Jacksonville. Cleveland finished the season losing six straight.

Tampa, which easily beat its preseason Las Vegas win total (7.5), underachieved its Pythagorean win expectation by 1.1 games. They finished with a negative turnover differential (-5) and they were just 1-6 in games decided by five points or less or in overtime.

Green Bay, with the No. 5 total offense and No. 5 total defense, was actually the only team in the league to finish in the Top 5 on both sides of the ball. And ironically enough, the last time the Packers boasted Top 5 units on both sides of the ball was the 1998 team that also lost in the Wild Card Round.

They drafted a rookie quarterback No. 2 overall and that rookie took the league by storm, leading the 2023 Texans to 10 wins and a surprise playoff appearance. Then, prior to the 2024 season, Houston spent the offseason loading up on big-name veterans through trades and free agency in an attempt to build on their breakthrough season.
